Branding: Genesis sounds okay but it could have been better

I have been working on branding for a while and I have learned so many things. Even before teaching myself how to brand through repetition and practice, I have come to realize that I have a talent in it. And after teaching myself about branding, the way how I view the world and products and services changed. I learned that branding is not only important but it is extremely important in order to guarantee the success of companies. Branding can make or break your product and your country’s economy depends on it. I am saying this because when South Korea’s largest automobile company launched a new premium and luxury car brand called ‘Genesis’, I immediately thought it was weird. Not only it sounded weird but it was also awkward. The product itself was really good but something was off. The branding lacked so much and I thought there is so much more potential for Genesis if it rebranded correctly with the right brand name. With the new branding, not only it will receive a global appeal but it will make people buy their product, in this case, a car.

This is the reason why while I was working on branding in my free time, I have come up with names for Genesis to rebrand itself. Not only it will sound so much better but it also depicts the car itself with the brand name.

May I suggest a new name for Genesis? (If only Hyundai hold a competition on rebranding their new luxury car), this is the new brand name I have come up with:

  • Donovan Martin

Although it is not your average Korean name, but through globalization and with the borders becoming unnecessary, I think it is completely fine for Genesis to use a name that has a global appeal, which is English. I believe ‘Donovan Martin’ not only reflects perfectly on the image of the Genesis brands itself, but it will also rival Mercedes Benz for sure.

Doesn’t the image above screams ‘Donovan Martin’ or what.

Hopefully, I am looking forward to riding Donovan Martin in the future. Before Genesis was launched, it was part of a model name of the Hyundai brand. In order for Genesis to transition successfully into Donovan Martin, I believe Hyundai should use the same strategy and name their model name Donovan Martin and eventually make it another completely different car brand. This is the only way to smoothly transition into Donovan Martin.
